I started doing pest control in 2019. I loved the company I was with, but ultimately left to pursue a better career path in 2022 for a company in Phoenix, AZ. I stayed there for a few years but the company changed directions. I knew I could be doing more for my customers and community, so I left. I met my wife here in St. George, and after considering where to start a company, we knew we had to come back. That’s when I called my best friend Jacob, and we started Lemon Zest Pest Defense.

When I started in pest control in 2019 I had no intention of doing it forever. After I began making new connections with so many people and solving their pest problems it was undeniable how much I was able to benefit people’s lives. I knew it was something I had to pursue. The joy I feel when my customers are happy to see me arrive for service shows me I made the right decision.

How Lemon Zest Pest Defense Came to Be
It was a huge risk to start this company. Most pest companies prioritize lots of services in a day, shortest time-on-site metrics, cheapest chemicals, long-term contracts, and high cancellation fees. When we started out, we wanted to be different from your run-of-the-mill pest companies that only focus on profit. We wanted to make something we were proud to put our names on. It never sat right with us that people were locked in several years long contracts with hundreds of dollars to pay to get out. That’s why at Lemon Zest Pest Defense we are a No Contract Company. The risk has paid off, and we now have customers all over Washington county who know they can count on us to address their needs, with integrity and quality first.

I met Christian, the owner, a while back when he was buzzing around our neighborhood (pun very much intended). He was so friendly, informative, and refreshingly not pushy—basically the opposite of a cockroach. At the time, we already had a bug guy, so I filed Christian away in the “Nice People to Remember When My Life Becomes a Horror Movie” folder.
Fast forward: cue ominous music and skittering sounds—the cockroach infestation from my nightmares became very real. I texted Christian in desperation, and he swooped in like a superhero with a sprayer.
Yes, he charges more than our old bug guy—but with the sheer amount of work he did, I felt like I was underpaying. He spent over an hour meticulously cleaning the exterior of our home, evicting wasp squatters, setting up traps like a pest-control MacGyver, and generally going above and beyond. I’m half-convinced he sprinkled some fairy dust on the house when he left.
